about the program
Diaspora investment is crucial for the development and growth of home countries. At the core of GERMIN’s mission is the mobilization of diaspora financial and human resources into productive investments in Kosovo. While remittances have long contributed to the economic development of home countries, channeling these funds into strategic investments is essential for long-term growth. Through targeted initiatives, Germin collaborates with local stakeholders and institutions to facilitate diaspora investments that generate income and employment at the local level, promoting local products, fostering public-private partnerships, and enhancing market linkages through diaspora networks.
Germin’s efforts also focus on connecting local service providers with diaspora business partners to meaningful economic opportunities. By re-channeling remittances into productive sectors and encouraging direct investment, Germin aims to boost diaspora participation in the economy and contribute to and contribute to the sustainable development and integration of the countries of origin into the global economy.
Germin has implemented several projects to utilize diaspora investments to promote economic development in Kosovo. Within this framework, Germin has organized three business forums for the diaspora and several investment forums in various municipalities of Kosovo, where campaigns such as Invest in Prizren, Invest in Kamenica, and Invest in Vushtrri were also launched. Additionally, Germin supported the Diaspora Network in organizing a fair in Vienna, Austria.
One example is the Municipal Action for Reintegration and Diaspora project, implemented in cooperation with Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo, which aimed to leverage the expertise and financial resources of the diaspora to drive economic growth in Kosovo’s municipalities.
Another initiative, the Diaspora for Women Entrepreneurs project, with support from USAID Kosovo Compete Activity, provided mentorship and training for women entrepreneurs in Kosovo to enhance their position in the export market.
In collaboration with the Innovation & Training Park Prizren (ITP), Germin has also worked to attract diaspora engagement in the private sector, vocational education, training institutions, and research and innovation activities.
These projects demonstrate Germin’s commitment to harnessing the knowledge and financial capital of the diaspora to support sustainable development in Kosovo, creating a pathway for the country’s integration into the global economy.
